Rome for 10 months – nice!

By on Sep 2, 2015 in House Sitting, Italy, Rome, Travel experiences | 0 comments

After the epic European road trip through 7 countries we finally made it to our 10 month house sit in Formello just outside Rome, Italy!

We are all very excited to put down a few temporary roots, learn a new language, make a few friends and get a bit of work/school under our belts!  Many of our posts over the next 10 months will be about an ex-pat families life in and around Rome 🙂

The house we’re fortunate to be looking after is lovely and a great place to work, and being about 30 minutes to Rome its very handy for touring!  We are in charge of one very friendly black and white outside cat call Octavio – when ever we are outside picking figs or wandering around the olive grove he is close at hand rubbing up against our ankles hoping for a rub 🙂

Last Thursday we were very happy to have a friend join us for our first visit into Rome.  Richard our home owner showed us how to catch the train, 15 minutes later we met Sif and Sunny in city!

Sif and Sunny are from Iceland!  In fact they are the only people/dog we have ever met from Iceland.  Sif is traveling around Europe in a camper with her gorgeous little dog Sunny – you can see more about their adventures on their travel blog: Sunny On The Road

They love Rome and have been there many times making them great tour guides for us first timers!  How many people can say they had Icelandic tour guides around Rome?

We had a lovely day exploring Rome with Sif and Sunny including visiting the oldest running ice cream shop in Rome!  The ice creams were delicious and as they weren’t in the tourist zone, they were very reasonably priced – we will be going back there!

Thanks to Sif and Sunny we now have a good idea of how Rome is laid out and what we will go back to see in more details – that would be everything!   We’re starting to think that 10 months will never be enough time to truly explore Rome let alone anywhere else in Italy!

Caio for now 🙂

Mum, wife, online geek girl, distance runner, adventurer etc. all rolled into one! My job is to make sure we all have clean clothes, food to eat and most importantly that we have a heap of awesome experiences to fill our memory banks!
