The Louvre as a Birthday Present!

This week its been my turn to have a travelling birthday!

Since I was a child Paris has been one of my must visit places in the world.  Its full of so much history, art, beauty and romanticism – it really is the stuff that dreams are made of.  Finally we’re here and to top it off its my birthday – lots of smiles from my 🙂

We discussed all the things we’d like to see and do in Paris, there are so many!  Then it was time for me to narrow it down to what I would like to do for my birthday – how do you chose between the Eiffel Tower, Place of Verse, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre?  A bike ride around this amazing city almost won, but in the end I chose the Louvre.

Its the kind of place you can visit over and over again and see new things (I may go back with my mum next week when she arrives in Paris).  The Louvre also has so many modern references that its not just an old stuffy museum its an historic building, which along with its contents, has been woven into contemporary culture.  We see references to it in movies and books, there are even myths about it, which is so cool!

I still can’t believe I’ve seen the Mona Lisa, its such a significant art work in our culture!  Mind you I’ve seen a number of much larger versions in Asia in the last 6 months 🙂   Crowds are often an issue when viewing this famous picture, but we were lucky on the day and got to spend some time with Lisa.  Sebastian said he just didn’t understand what all the fuss was about??  We attempted to explain it to him, but I don’t think we were too convincing!

We spent the entire day wondering around this amazing building full of amazing art works and it was perfect!  Every now and then we’d look out the window at …. “Paris” … and it was just as you see it in movies and brochures – beautiful, fascinating, gorgeous, Parisian!  I’d go as far as to say that the Louvre windows felt like another exhibit in their own right – just amazing 🙂

I feel very blessed to have been given the Louvre as my birthday present in 2015 – it really is breath taking.

P.S. This week will also see us celebrate Ben’s 13th birthday – so a week of birthdays in Paris!

Mum, wife, online geek girl, distance runner, adventurer etc. all rolled into one! My job is to make sure we all have clean clothes, food to eat and most importantly that we have a heap of awesome experiences to fill our memory banks!

Glad you had an amazing birthday at the Louvre. I remember being a little disappointed when I first saw ‘Lisa’ and how small she is, but then understanding what an amazing masterpiece of artwork she really is 🙂 Henry lived an opulent life too didn’t he? Enjoy the rest of your stay in Paris xxxx

The Louvre was amazing, I can understand the art students who almost live there! It just feels grand 🙂
